AT Dental Care: Where Innovation Meets Comfort

Integrated dentistry, without question, is truly where it’s AT for today's busy patients seeking convenient quality care and doctor’s looking to optimize space, time, and cost.

Many practitioners move into pre-existing spaces and make the work fit the space. Tuan Vo, DDS, experienced the inefficiencies of working at such  practices as an associate, with a dream of doing something better, for patients and for himself. Dr. Vo signed on with Henry Schein in 2019 to help build his dream practice, appropriately named AT Dental Care.

Dream Space Becomes Reality

Dr. Vo, a passionate practitioner with a penchant for integrating the best advances in dental technology with patient care and comfort, met Kevin McBee, an Equipment Sales Specialist with Henry Schein, through a mutual acquaintance. Dr. Vo had already decided on a location in south San Jose, California, when he asked for Kevin and the Henry Schein team for help.

“I didn’t know anything about building a new office from the ground up, but I had very specific goals in mind,” said Dr. Vo. “Henry Schein Dental gave me a unique opportunity to use my experiences and perspectives to design and build the dental office of my dreams and achieve those goals.”

His past and present experiences, combined with his many hours of continuing education courses and independent research to stay-up-to date, enabled him to determine what he needed in terms of techniques and technology to provide the optimal experience for patients seeking general, surgical, and cosmetic dental care.

Dr. Vo’s ideal practice required the utmost efficient use of all 2,400-square-feet of a space he purchased in an upscale, urban Vietnamese community, just east of the Foot Hills.

“When I met Dr. Vo, he was very specific about how he wanted the space divided in terms of work flow,” said Mr. McBee. “I understood exactly where he was going with his ideas. We just needed to build it out with the right plan, including considerations for equipment and technology, overall comfort, as well as future growth.”

Form, Function, and Hygiene Come Together

Construction on the state-of-the art AT Dental Care began in late 2019, with the clinical portion divided into three sections:

  1. General dentistry
  2. Hygiene and orthodontics
  3. Surgical suite, with capacity to expand in the future

Mr. McBee worked alongside Dr. Vo’s contractor, to ensure a seamless install of highly specialized, integrated equipment, which would allow Dr. Vo to provide a number of services, such as veneers, implants, and crowns under one roof. “Many practitioners unfortunately invest in technologies that do not work well together, and then they are stuck with inefficient workflows that only gets harder to change as the practice grows,” explained Mr. McBee. "Dr. Vo understood the value in starting his office out with the right equipment to grow with not just his immediate but future technology decisions as well.”

“My advice to other dentists considering a buildout or a new office, is to assemble a great team. I believed Henry Schein could help me achieve my vision and I was absolutely right.” -- Dr. Tuan Vo

Late Opening, Early Success

The buildout for AT Dental Care, which is sleek and modern, equipped with three operatories and capacity for five, was completed in March 2020. The grand opening was originally scheduled the week of the mandatory COVID-19 shutdown. What would have been a devastating experience for a new practice became an opportunity for Dr. Vo.

“Dr. Vo is all about doing things right,” said Mr. McBee. “The dental industry, by its nature, has always been at the forefront of hygiene. Dr. Vo used the time to fully understand and ensure he had all the right protocols and measures in place.”

AT Dental Care receptionWhile a belated, limited grand opening was held in July 202, Dr. Vo posted a virtual 360-degree virtual office tour on his Facebook page. Apparently, community residents liked what they saw and experienced. Word of mouth traveled quickly. Business is bustling and he is already planning on adding another operatory chair, after less than a year in business, as opposed to the average two to three years for a typical new urban practice, according to Mr. McBee.

Dr. Vo credits his partnership with Henry Schein for enabling him to successfully realize his dream. “Henry Schein is more than just a vendor,” said Dr. Vo. “The Henry Schein team goes above and beyond to ensure their clients’ success. During the installation, they were here testing all the equipment to ensure everything went seamlessly, and they continue to check in and see how things are going.”
