Park Plaza Dental Redesign: More Space Means More Smiles

Park Plaza Dental increased its smile potential, with the grand opening celebration of its newer, larger practice in Petaluma, California, in January 2020.

Dr. Mona Mahmoodi and her staff of eight quickly outgrew the former practice location that she had acquired a little over five years ago. Dr. Mahmoodi provides everything from pediatric and general dentistry, to cosmetic dentistry and implants. She found a larger, more accommodating space — where she could buildout a practice  better suited to her growing practice and her personal specifications — in the same, charming city of Petaluma in Northern California. However, time was of the essence since her current lease was expiring and she wanted the new facility’s buildout complete so she would not have a gap in service.

Practice Buildout Creates More Smiles

Park Plaza Dental Treatment RoomAs luck would have it, she met Kevin McBee, a Henry Schein Equipment Sales Specialist, at a local dental society event. Mr. McBee has also worked closely with Henry Schein’s Integrated Design Studio design team, renowned for its integrated designs for dental practices, with a portfolio boasting more than 39,500 general practice and specialty dental environments of new construction, office remodels, and expansions.

Dr. Mahmoodi told Mr. McBee she was closing on a space that she was gutting and redesigning to create an ideal practice  from a “clean slate.” She was in the process of interviewing vendors for input on both the design and equipment selection when Mr. McBee made the introduction to the Integrated Design Studio team.

Dr. Mahmoodi didn’t waste time making her final distributor choice. She knew Kevin had her best interests at heart. “We had ideas of what we wanted, but we liked Kevin’s personality and his approach,” explained Dr. Mahmoodi. “He didn’t try to sell us. He was very transparent. The only time he pushed us to do something was when he insisted we look at an office with a design similar to the one he was proposing. We ended up changing everything we thought we wanted to do because of that visit.”

While we provided 3D-visualization of the buildout, taking her to a clinic with the same concepts helped her see the entire plan in action.”

Dr. Mahmoodi was limited in the number of patients she could see at her old 1,200-square-foot facility, which contained three operatories in a very tight space. The limited space — combined with a burgeoning clientele — limited her ability to serve clients as quickly, efficiently, and as comfortably as she preferred. “Being in a smaller space, with a growing practice, can be stressful,” explained Mr. McBee. “My goal for any client buildout or redesign is to maximize efficiency and production, and enhance the overall patient experience.”
